New Year, New Adventures

GLoW IN THE DARK CUPCAKES! Well, not really. But close.

All that matters is that they taste good. And look cool. January though, I am back to muffins! This is good because muffins are easier because they don't have frosting, and bad because they don't have frosting.

We had a black light party (and thus the cupcakes). I wasn't even mentally prepared for the new year. I don't really know what there is to prepare for, but somehow I don't feel ready for 2012! I am pretty sure that this will be the next best year of my life.

Many exciting things will happen this year, like:

The end of the world
I'll graduate college
Elder Helms gets home
Elder Hill gets home
Elder Hoye gets home
Elder Webb gets home
The Hunger Games comes out
The Hobbit comes out
Brave comes out
The Woman in Black comes out

...and other adventures. Bring it on!

Hallow ground

Photobucket
I have always been jealous of Ginny Weasley. She ends up with Harry. That brave be-speckled wizard who overcame loneliness, betrayal and loss, and not with magic (although he did have awesome skills). He used love, and courage, and friendship.

The Harry Potter series enchants me, and taught me so much. But it's not so much about what I learned, it's about how I felt as I learned.

I was treading through the words and gazing at moving pictures in the halls of Hogwarts at the edge of my breath. Right along with Harry, I was under the cloak of invisibility running through the forbidden forest.

I was devastated when I turned 11 and my Hogwarts letter came. But I kept hoarding memorabilia and collectibles in my Harry Potter Box. I slept on a Harry pillow and put a Harry blanket on my bed.

My friends love Harry's world, too. I love talking about it and speculating and remembering and making life metaphors with Harry Potter. It's just so fun.

I watched the movies and became more and more impressed with each one. They've been getting better over the years. And the last one is going to be fantastic. I just know it.

But I'm not going to the midnight premiere. Yes, call me lame, and not a true fan. I'll admit that this is partly because I'm old now and I can't stay up as late as I want anymore. Mostly, it's because I want to treat this moment with reverence.
Photobucket
This moment is special, sacred. The era isn't ending, I believe Harry Potter will forever remain in our culture and our hearts. But it is the end of the movies. I just want to take it in slowly. I've gobbled up every HP thing at midnight for about fifteen years. This time, I want to take my time.

Don't spoil anything for me! And I hope you enjoy this pics. Don't make fun of my Harry Potter toys.

Loves.

psycho

Hey yo! I totally feel like a crazy psycho late night post.

Because I seriously just learned to spell "psycho." And now like using it to describe things, although most aren't as gruesome and psycho as that movie.

So once I get through this week of school, it's a BRIDAL SHOWER themed weekend. Yes, that's two of them.

The soon-to-be-Mrs. Norris is getting married a month from today and so that means we're going to shower her with love, gifts and slightly naughty games. This is good, but somewhat fraught with peril.

Do the math
Brittni + Me + pink + zurchers + david's bridal * hormones = extreme madness

I can't wait to post pics of this extra-ordinary event. There will be paper lanterns, candy, umbrellas, flowers and retro musical music.

OK, now I'm feeling guilty about putting a picture of psycho on this post about lovely lady bridal showers. Well at least it got your attention, right? And this post was a great othering* activity.

Be cool, peeps. And wish me luck as I deal with double objects. Oh syntax. So psycho.

othering: verb- doing something semi-productive instead of homework (often used as a gerund)

Tea Party

This is my first tea party ever. On Friday, we all got dressed up and had a tea party. The house was gorgeous and so picturesque. I borrowed some hats and tablecloths from my great grandma (Who is turning 96 Sunday). She saves everything, which is okay only because she's so old that the things she saves actually are old enough to be amazing antiques. And I go for vintage things. I'm going to wear her wedding dress (which she made herself!) one day, assuming I ever find a guy stupid enough to marry me.
ANYWAY! The tea party was fantastic, even though the herbal tea never came. We made do with lemonade, cider, and all the delicious food. Cookies that said "Eat me," cucumber sandwiches, cupcakes, fruit, and all sorts of dainty delicacies.Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" was whimsical and thrilling. If nothing else, it was fun to watch because there was so much color and shape. He really created another world; leaving the theater was so disappointing. This world is super boring. My life is super boring. Everyone's life is. I call this the Avatar effect. It is one of those movies that is so crazy and it takes you out of reality so much that when you go back to real life you have an adjustment period.

In the end, I loved the movie, and I loved dressing up. I don't know who I went as... I just dressed for a tea party. Enjoy!
