Speaking

Sam and I are different. Crazy, I know. I love it, though.

I noticed our glorious differences a lot this weekend, especially Sunday. Friday night we were asked to speak just that Sunday! Some good friends of mine needed us to fill in to speak. In LDS wards, members from the congregation are called to speak and are usually give about a few weeks notice, but the scheduled speakers fell through. Sam and I were happy to jump in and speak, even though we didn't have much time to prepare.

When I speak, I'm kind of bold and direct. I sometimes tell personal stories, but I like to talk really loud and gesticulate. My talks are usually declaratory things, almost like a statement or creed. Usually I just write an outline, but this time I wrote out my talk word for word. I enjoyed the time to think out my word choice and more easily integrate my quotes and scriptures with my own words.

Sam, on the other hand, approaches speaking differently. He is more soft-spoken, and he is gentle about his message. He is humble and isn't afraid to talk about his own life and experiences. He is honest and speaks slowly and clearly. He went from an outline this time, and let himself go with the flow of the spirit.

I'm glad we're so different. As I was watching him speak, I was filled with so much love. I'm so proud of him. I'm happy he's a blue personality and I'm a red. I'm glad that our differences don't cause contention. And on the things that count, we're similar. For instance, we both like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, and OJ with lots of pulp. You know, the important things.

--------------

In other news, Memorial Day weekend was delightful. We went to the airshow, got some wedding stuff done, spoke in church, and went to the cabin. It was Sam's first time at our cabin, and it was so fun to show him around.

We dropped Lindsey off at camp. She's a counselor at a camp for girls. She'll be spending the whole summer there, but gets to come home on weekends. I miss her already.

Now it's back to looking for jobs and planning a wedding. It is a stressful time, but I have my family and Sam to help me through.

Instagram catch up

I usually write more, but sometimes photos are just better. And more will come. My life will never be more busy or more amazing.

I woke up today and I counted all my blessings. I have so many. This may sound weird, but I just love being inside my own head. I could spend hours in there talking to myself and figuring out life. I just love thinking. So if I disappear, that's probably where I am. I'm not going crazy, I'm going home.

So I've been cheating on this blog with my blog for the Chronicle, check it out here.

Running in the rain

I keep saying I'm not a journalist, but I always find myself behaving like one. I am interning at a paper this summer. The Islander is a kinda-sorta legit paper. A young little thing that everyone is Syracuse reads because it is mailed to them as a community newsletter--no charge.
Photobucket
I cover Track and Field because my sister Lindsey is the bomb.com at that, and my other sister is a up-and-coming freshman star. Lindsey runs the 400-meter and Adriana is liking the 800-meter. I like the meters on my camera.

This weekend is the state championships, which are held at BYU. Today was so rainy and cold. We had an umbrella, but it was useless in the torrents of rain and wind. I actually started crying at one point. There was misery in the humid, cold air, and our clothes were soaked.

I can't even fathom how hard it would be to run in that, and yet so many did.

Eventually, the sun came out, although it was never quite as warm as it could have been. Luckily, my mom and I brought a few extra clothes and blankets that we kept in the car so we could change between events.

We're headed back down tomorrow for the finals! (Today was the trials) I'll probably be donning my U of U hat because it feels really good to wear it down there amongst all that blue. And I hope to see some of my besties that live down in P-town.

And I'm going to take more pictures with an intimidating camera which I am borrowing, so I only sort of know how to use it. And I'm going to interview people, despite my dislike for that. It's going to be great and sunny.

p.s. I have exciting news about what ELSE I'll be doing this summer... stay tuned. I can't wait to share! (Unless rapture happens, then I guess it won't matter anyway...)

Lindsey is 18 today!

This is the card I made for her.

Episode 2: Mexico and cruising!

That, my friends, is the flag of Mexico.

Outside: the sea. Inside: a nice elevator. (My mom and aunt.)

See that skin of mine? Burnt to a crisp. Even Lindsey, the tan one, got scathed by the wonderful hot rays of the star that our plant orbits around.

This is the store of Alejandro, one of the nicest men I've ever met. I practiced my Spanish by speaking to him while buying my bag and vanilla. My mom is super great at not only speaking Spanish, but bargaining and bartering! We were afraid to go to the flea market without her!

We are Dutch, sailing on Holland America. Suffice it to say... we ate twice our weight in sweets. Oh how I love a good sugar rush. Mmmm.

Lindsey is growing up!

Photobucket

Lindsey and Andrew-- darling.

My sister Lindsey is two years younger than me, and so she's graduating this year. She's applying, auditioning, and figuring out where she's going to spend the next few years.

It reminds me of when I was picking a university to attend. So many feelings and trepidations. So much momentum and excitement.

And it doesn't stop! I graduate in 17 months! And what to do then? I don't know!

Anyway, no use getting nervous and worried. I am excited for what the future holds for Lindsey. I am proud of her!

Now I really ought to get started on the paper I've been procrastinating.

Champion!

Well, I did it!

On Saturday I ran my 10k in 56:29.6. I was 66th out of 165 in my age division and 1286th overall. But the most important part is that I finished! My pink lunagliders made their racing debut!

I'm so sore, I think my leg is going to fall off. But my joy is so full that I hardly mind.

My sisters and my "mom" did great as well! Actually, my mom's toe was too bruised to run, so my dad ran for her.

Much Fun and Love

It's 1 a.m. I have a paper to finesse and a presentation to prepare. So what is the most logical thing to do? Simple: do a blog post.

I had arguably one of the best weekends of my life. Considering it was the weekend before the end of the semester, that's pretty phenomenal if you ask me.

Relief Society retreat was so much fun. I've always loved the sisters in our ward, but we really bonded Friday night. We swam through each other souls. Laughs, pillow fights, secrets, swimming, games... ya, not much sleep happening. We joked about picking up some "Mans" in Midway, but it really didn't happen. I mean, after all it was a girls' night!

So I came home and went to Mr. Hill's recital! He rocks. I'm going to miss him with mounds and mounds of muchness.

Then... {drum roll please!}

I headed home for LINDSEY'S PROM!

She is the prom queen. Yes. She is the prom queen. I'm going to say it again: "She is the prom queen! "Behold:

I will post more pictures later, because I took about 300 pictures. I'm going to select about 17 to post here. Why 17 you ask? Why such a random number? Well, on Sunday Lindsey turned 17 years of age. I love her! I was so happy that I could come home and be there on her special weekend. (Ya, she had way too much attention this weekend. Luckily she's so humble and gracious: any other girl would probably be super annoying after all is said and done.)

(I feel bad that I'm leaving my other sister out, but I'm going to devote a post or two to her in the future, because she is amazing too. It just so happens that Lindsey took over the weekend.)

School ends on Wednesday. Will I be able to make it? I know not, but I love you all. Happy Spring!

Speedy

This is my sister Lindsey.

She's ranked Number 1
in Utah for the 400 m dash. Her time?

59.88 seconds.

I'm proud of her.
And the outdoor track season hasn't even begun yet.
Yes, be afraid, be very afraid.
